LEES+Associates has been in practice for nearly two decades and has a professional staff of over fifteen. From parks and trails to cemeteries and memorials, we bring diverse skills and experience in the planning and design of open space at every scale.

We provide our clients with comprehensive services, tailored to their project needs. Our team maintains high standards for site specific design that fits the space as well as fulfills programming needs. We are proud to have received national and provincial awards for both landscape architecture and planning.

Erik is a Fellow of the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects and a Registered Professional Planner. He has served on design panels, community associations and numerous advisory committees associated with parks, urban design, health and the built environment. Over the last 35 years his passion for meaningful, sustainable landscapes has underpinned his work.
He has been at the helm of LEES+Associates since 1998.

Kathi brings passion for landscapes, physical & cultural, to her engagement as Principal and member of the administrative team. Her background in museum studies, education and interpretation adds another layer of depth to the resources of Lees + Associates.

Elsa comes with a broad background in administrative support and customer service. With a vast experience having worked with Fortune 500 companies in the US and Canada, she is responsible for managing the office and the general administrative functions of the company.

Michele Campbell

Michele holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of British Columbia where she was awarded a Scholarship for Excellence in Design from the Landscape Architecture Canada Foundation. Michele is committed to promoting access to nature and as a Greenest City Scholar she helped develop the Vancouver Bird Strategy and Bird Friendly Design Guidelines. At LEES+Associates she combines excellent landscape design and graphic skills with an interest in stakeholder engagement, green infrastructure, urban biodiversity, memorial parks, and public open space planning.
Michele has played a key role in many projects at LEES+Associates including: Salmon Arm New Cemetery Design, McIntosh Run Active Recreation Trail, Humber Bay Shores Trail Improvements, and Metro Vancouver Grown Green Garden Design Templates. She is currently working on the Metro Vancouver Regional Parks Land Acquisition Strategy, Bowen Island Park Plan, and City of White Rock Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

Ali has a multidisciplinary background in environmental science and landscape architecture. She holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Victoria. She brings to the team experience in habitat assessment, restoration design, and environmental management. Ali has worked on projects in environmental planning, parks and trails development, and urban design. Having spent time studying and working in the Netherlands, Ali gained a unique interest in coastal restoration and watershed planning. During her time abroad, she was commissioned to aid in the design of sustainable communities for displaced populations, gaining experience leading international workshops and design teams. Passionate about improving sustainability and protecting ecosystems, Ali synthesizes her scientific background with the creativity of design to form holistic solutions moving forward.

Yao attained her Master Degree of Landscape Architecture at UBC and Bachelor of Landscape Architecture in Beijing Forestry University. She is detail-oriented and has a special interest in cemetery and memorialization design. She is passionate about open space and park development. With experience in both Canada and China, Yao brings outstanding experience in both large-scale planning and small-scale landscape design, and an integrative approach to sustainable design.

Yao’s experience at LEES+Associates includes: Elk Falls Cemetery Expansion Design, City of Kelowna Legacy Cremation Gardens, City of Port Coquitlam Cemetery Cremation Garden and
Kneehill County Cemetery Survey and mapping projects.

Richard Cook

Richard brings 14 years of experience in local government and private consultancy. As a rigorous and sensitive designer Richard has led or been a critical part of design teams on major projects in the UK and internationally. He has worked on a wide variety of projects including historic landscape restoration, master planning, detailed design and construction drawings, and GIS mapping.

With over fifteen years experience working within Architectural and Engineering spheres, Stewart has a strong understanding of the design process, from initiation and client engagement through to construction and realization of projects on the ground.  He has a dual honours under-graduate degree in Landscape Architecture and Archaeology from The University of Sheffield, England and a post-graduate Diploma in Landscape Architecture. An aptitude for detailed design and technical proficiency make Stewart the company lead within CAD and GIS realms, producing robust construction and tender documents, as well as managing the in-house GPS and mapping systems. Stewart’s unique set of graphic communication skills help realize our passion for creating compelling designs that have a positive effect within urban and natural environments.

Eileen has over 5 years of experience on landscape, urban design and public art projects at a variety of scales in Canada, the US and the Middle East. She holds a Masters in Landscape Architecture from the University of Toronto, where she was awarded the ASLA Certificate of Honour. Passionate about active transportation, public space, and sacred landscapes, she brings a balance of creativity and pragmatism to her design work. She has led cemetery and parks projects in Merritt, BC and North Vancouver, BC.

Dave has been intensely committed to park planning and public recreation for more than 30 years. His background in landscape architecture and parks management, combined with a thorough understanding of local government systems, provides an excellent mix of planning and park design skills. In the early 1970s he worked in the private sector, both as a partner in a multi-disciplinary design office, and later in his own company. In 1978, Dave joined Delta Leisure Services Department as parks manager where he was responsible for planning and capital development.  In 2001, Dave returned to private practice and his company took on a six year contract with the Capital Regional District to provide parks and recreation management services on Salt Spring Island. Dave currently works with LEES + Associates on projects requiring his specialized background in public recreation and athletic field design.

Catriona is a Senior Associate at LEES+Associates with diverse skills and expertise. She has been active in the profession for over 20 years, and with LEES+Associates since 2004, working on projects across Canada and the US. Her areas of expertise include feasibility studies, conceptual to detailed design, construction administration, public engagement and communications. Catriona is a Master Gardener with a passion for horticulture, ecology and sustainable design. Her belief in the significance of the public realm enhances our firm’s ability to deliver quality projects to our clients.

Catriona’s experience at LEES+Associates includes: Mountain View Cemetery Infant Garden, the expansion of Calgary’s Cemetery System, expansions at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa and one of Canada’s first green burial areas at Royal Oak Burial Park in Victoria.

Reinaldo Jordan

Reinaldo Jordan

Reinaldo has a wide range of experience in landscape architecture, urban design, and industrial design. Having worked in Canada as well as internationally on multidisciplinary teams in the design of renowned large-scale, landscape projects, he places design innovation and strategy as driving force in landscape design. He understands the critical role that design excellence plays in creating landscapes that serve as catalysts for community-building, real estate development and environmental sustainability. Throughout his career he has participated in the design of high-profile projects such as Toronto Central Waterfront, New York’s Governors Island, Stratford City for the 2012 London Olympics and the winning entry for the University of Manitoba Visionary (Re) Generation Competition. His educational background includes studies in landscape architecture, architecture, environmental sciences and fine arts from the University of Toronto, the Architectural Academy-Amsterdam and University College Dublin. Reinaldo currently works for LEES+Associates as a project manager on projects requiring his specialized background in landscape design, open space planning and graphic design.

John Kirbyson brings more than thirty years of progressive civic experience in parks, recreation and facility planning, design, construction and management, culminating as the Director of Penticton’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Department. John is well versed in municipal operations, regulations, procedures, administration and governance structure and brings expertise in public consultation and community engagement, parks and open space planning, environmental design and sustainable best practices. John has completed a Master’s degree in Resource Management from Simon Fraser University, a Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Community Development from Royal Roads University and is currently enrolled in the Restoration of Natural Systems program at the University of Victoria. John has collaborated with LEES+Associates on a number of parks and recreation masterplanning projects.

Heidi is a landscape architect with a Masters of Landscape Architecture from UBC and a Bachelor of Arts from Wellesley College. She brings to the team strong project management skills and a commitment to improving community health and livability through design. Heidi leads our firm’s park and trail planning, outdoor recreation, open space design, and active transportation projects. Heidi works closely with clients and community stakeholders to identity a project vision and develop plans that are responsive to community needs. Heidi moved to Whitehorse in 2015 and heads our northern office.
Heidi has led many projects at LEES+Associates including: Iqaluit Municipal Cemetery, Wood Buffalo Urban and Rural Cemetery Design, Stanley Park Cycling Plan and BC Hydro Arrow Lakes Recreational Demand Study.

Jennifer is an award-winning Chartered Professional Accountant and Business Manager with expertise in strategic management, market research, financial and business planning. She manages our proprietary Cemetery Business Case Analysis Tool CBCAT © and leads our firm’s business case analyses, cemetery operations evaluations, land need assessments and financial forecasting.

Jennifer’s experience at LEES+Associates includes cemeteries and crematoria feasibility studies, analyses and business plans for the City of Hamilton, City of Welland, York Region, City of Kelowna, City of Penticton, City of Surrey, Town of Creston, Town of Cumberland, City of Campbell River, Town of Olds, Town of Drayton Valley, Rockyview County, City of Brandon and Province of Saskatchewan amongst many others.

Megan Turnock

Megan Turnock has a multidisciplinary background in conservation biology and landscape architecture, with 15 years of diverse experience including municipal park and recreation master planning, environmental and watershed planning, habitat restoration design, environmental impact assessments, and trail planning and design. Her science background makes her a keen researcher committed to finding the best evidence-based solutions, while her landscape architecture training helps her creatively synthesize multiple factors in the urban and natural environment. Megan is committed to improving sustainability, fostering community, protecting ecosystems, and finding creative solutions.

Megan has led many projects at LEES+Associates including: Town of Banff Trails Master Plan, District of Squamish Parks and Recreation Master Plan, and the City of Salmon Arm Parks and Recreation Master Plan. She has also been involved in sustainability initiatives including the Sustainable Sites Initiative and the Green Shores Coastal Development Rating System.

Leila has over a decade of experience in landscape architecture, and has been with LEES+Assocates since 2005. Leila has a unique understanding of sacred spaces, informed by her research, her master’s thesis at the University of British Columbia, and her work abroad. She brings a keen eye and creative focus to her design approach. Leila is committed to the creation of unique, innovative and meaningful public spaces.
Leila has led many award winning projects at LEES+Associates including: Air India Memorial, Mountain View Cemetery Redevelopment and the Komagata Maru Memorial.
