Our team developed a detailed plan for a system of multi-use, low-impact, single-track, active recreation trails. Located north of the City of Halifax, between the community of Spryfield and Herring Cove, the trails showcase the natural beauty of the McIntosh River Watershed. We provided precise alignments for the trail system, construction details and a system of way-finding strategies. Members of our team walked the proposed trail alignment using GPS survey equipment in multiple directions and at various speeds to assess possible trail flow. The preferred trail alignment was selected in accordance with environmental and recreation standards and flagged to guide future implementation. The project provided the Regional Municipality, the McIntosh Run Watershed Association and local stewardship groups the resources they need to expand this trail network in a sensitive and sustainable way.
